One of the biggest things you can do to make sure your computer is running smoothly is to make sure you have the latest operating system updates installed on your computer. Every year in the fall, Apple releases a free Operating system update for Mac computers. And since Windows 10, Microsoft releases two major updates once in the spring, and once in the fall. In this article, I will explain some of the most important features of each update.
Apple’s update this year is called Mojave 10.14. If you haven’t upgraded yet, it is available now, in the App store. I’ve been using it for a little over a week now, and here are some of my favorite features: Dark Mode. This is enabled in the settings, and one turned on you will notice the over-all colors of your windows, tabs, and backgrounds are a much darker gray color. I have been using dark mode and have noticed a lot less eye strain. Stacks: Do you have a desktop filled with icons of various types of files? With Stacks enabled, your desktop will automatically stack all of your file types (PDF’s for example) in one organized “stack”. Click the stack, and it opens up to show you all of the files stacked inside. At first, I didn’t care for this feature, but after using it, I really like it. My desktop has never been so organized. Dynamic Desktop: This is a fun new desktop wallpaper that works with dark mode. As the day progresses, the blue sky in the wallpaper adjusts for where the sun is wherever you are in the world. As it gets darker outside, so does your wallpaper. There are many other new features, but those are my favorites.
Windows 10 new update is simply called the October 2018 update. I was hoping that it would be released by now, but they had a few hiccups that forced them to delay the launch. Once it is available for download here are a few features you can look forward to: Clipboard Utility: Instead of being able to paste only the last thing you copied it will save a few of your last copies. Dark Mode: Windows will have its own dark-themed color scheme for its operating system. Phone: Windows is going to make it easier to sync your Apple or Android device with your windows computer. This is supposed to go way beyond just syncing photos. I can’t wait to see what they come up with. And last but not least, Windows is supposed to have fewer restarts to install updates. If you have been using any version of Windows in the last 10 years, you know how annoying this can be. Hopefully, this update will be available soon.
